UNC Charlotte has introduced a new Microcredentials Framework that organizes microcredentials by level—from recognition and foundational learning to intermediate application and advanced mastery. This shared framework clarifies expectations for learners, strengthens the credibility of UNC Charlotte’s credentials, and aligns the University’s approach with leading microcredential and digital badging practices.
To support faculty and staff, UNC Charlotte has also launched the Faculty & Staff Guidelines for Developing Microcredentials. The guide walks users through the development process, from identifying competencies and designing meaningful assessments to navigating the proposal process and aligning a microcredential with the new framework.
Faculty and staff can also leverage Coursera to expand microcredential opportunities. By incorporating Coursera courses into UNC Charlotte programs, instructors can help learners earn industry-recognized Coursera certificates alongside their academic work, providing another way to demonstrate workforce-ready skills.
