Charlotte Online Supercharges a Record-Breaking Summer 2026
The final census data for Summer 2026 is in, and the results are historic. Total student headcount reached 13,462, course registrations climbed to 29,534, and Student Credit Hours (SCHs) accelerated to a record 85,470.
Leading the charge was Charlotte Online, transforming summer from a traditional pit stop into a fast lane for degree completion.
The Big Story: A 67% Increase in Online Undergraduate Enrollment
Charlotte Online undergraduate enrollment powered ahead, with student credit hours increasing from 4,095 last summer to 6,844 this year—a remarkable 67.13% increase.
This momentum was fueled by newer fully online degree pathways, including:
- Business Administration (B.S.B.A.)
- Social Work (B.S.W.)
- Health Systems Management (B.S.)
These flexible programs gave more students the opportunity to stay on track and race towards graduation.
Why Online and Flexible Formats Dominated the Field
Summer 2026 reinforced that flexibility drives student success.
- Asynchronous Online Takes the Lead: Nearly 69% of all summer credit hours were earned in fully asynchronous courses, allowing students to balance work, internships, and family responsibilities while maintaining academic momentum.
- Focused on the Finish Line: Credit hours in major and minor requirements increased 7.11%, while elective enrollment declined, showing students prioritized courses that moved them closer to graduation.
- Upperclassmen Shifted into High Gear: Juniors and seniors each posted a 10% increase in credit hours, using the summer term to complete key degree requirements.
Looking Ahead: A New Standard for Student Success
Summer 2026 demonstrates what happens when flexible, career-focused programs meet student demand. With the university’s summer capture rate reaching 47.03%—its highest level in five years—Charlotte Online continues to help students stay in the driver’s seat and reach graduation faster.
